D. C. Bars to Stay Open Late on Holidays

Could the Later Hours Cause a Problem

Partiers, rejoice: you'll soon get an extra hour in at the bars on District holidays.

A revised version of Mayor Vincent Gray’s bill passed on Tuesday.  The Council approved the extended hours for the bars to stay open until 4 in the morning on District and federal holidays.

The Mayor wanted to keep the bars open that extra hour year-round in an attempt to bring in about $3.6 million of additional revenue to the District. However, D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown wanted a compromise on this bill because it would help the city’s budget.

Not all residents are excited about the new change, and predict problems to come. Many  neighborhoods say that crime and trash problems could increase with the later hours. Another obvious drawback? Loud noises late at night.
