WASHINGTON -- D.C. Councilman Marion Barry finally filed his 2007 tax return Tuesday and is threatening to file his 2008 taxes next week, according to a representative for the former mayor.
Last week, federal prosecutors asked a judge to send Barry to jail for not filing his tax return. He was on probation for failing to file on time in the past and had failed to file on time in eight of the past nine years.
Barry is waiting to undergo kidney transplant surgery and said his medical condition distracted him from filing on time.
There's no word on a court appearance for Barry to answer charges that he violated his parole on a previous tax conviction by not filing on time.
