Charles William Hagee of the Baltimore Police Department has been arrested and charged with third- and fourth-degree sexual offenses and sexual solicitation of a minor.
The offenses came to light after Howard County police received a tip regarding the online prostitution of a Maryland teen.
Police believe 44-year-old Hagee contacted the then 14-year-old girl with a phone number posted on the online advertisement and began exchanging text messages.
Between January and May 2013, Hagee and the teen engaged in sexual activity at his Columbia home on three separate occasions, police said.
Hagee was arrested Wednesday morning at Baltimore police headquarters. A 19-year veteran of the force, Hagee was suspended without pay.
