Australia's Cardno acquires Va.-based firm MM&A

The consulting firm will provide information about energy exploration

Cardno Limited has acquired Virginia-based mining, energy and environmental consulting firm Marshall Miller and Associates.

The companies announced the deal Tuesday.

Cardno says in a news release that it will pay up to $31 million, 91 percent in cash and 9 percent in stock, to acquire Bluefield, Va.-based MM&A. Nine percent of the purchase price is deferred for 18 months and 10 percent is subject to attaining performance targets over the next year.

The Australian infrastructure services group says MM&A will give it expertise in mining engineering, mine reserve evaluation, oil and gas exploration and other energy-related services.

MM&A President Scott Keim tells the Bluefield Daily Telegraph that the merger could create new positions at the Virginia company, which has 180 employees.
