An aspiring medical school student who tried to hack into computer systems to try to change his standardized test scores has been sentenced in Virginia to three months in prison.
Bosung Shim, of Rockville, Md., was sentenced Friday in federal court in Alexandria, Va.
Shim, 24, pleaded guilty last month to trying to hack into the computer systems of the University of Michigan and the Association of American Medical Colleges.
Prosecutors saID he was trying to give himself higher scores on the Medical College Admission Test, and when his efforts didn't work, paid other hackers to help him.
The hacking caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage to the medical college association's computer system. Shim was ordered to pay more than $31,650 in restitution.
