Aspen Hill Stabbing Case Now Murder

Victim died in hospital

The 20-year-old victim of a stabbing at Aspen Hill bus stop has died and the case is now being investigated as a homicide, Montgomery County Police said Saturday.

The two teens charged as adults in the attack, Alvin Rey Valdez, 16, and Jose Romero, 14, of Wheaton, are in custody and being held without bail.

They were originally arrested on March 13, after fleeing the scene, and charged with attempted murder, first degree assault and other offenses in the case.

The attack happened on March 11 after the teens and the man exchanged gang signs and began fighting near the bus stop at the intersection of Georgia and Hewitt avenues.

During the assault, they fell down the embankment behind the shelter. When the victim tried to crawl back to the top of the embankment, one of the suspects pulled him back down. Police say at one point during the assault, Valdez stabbed the victim several times.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was in grave condition after the attack.  Police said the fight was gang-related.
