Arrest Made in Southeast D.C. Homicide

Police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a Southeast D.C. woman.

Officers were called to the 4900 block of G Street SE just before 1 a.m. Nov. 22 for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found 21-year-old Rokeida Spriggs suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital, where she later died.

On Thanksgiving day, police arrested 22-year-old Charles Wennen Young of Forestville, Md., in connection with Spriggs' death. He was charged with second degree murder while armed.

Two days before Young's arrest, an officer fatally shot a man investigators wanted to speak to regarding Spriggs' death.

Police approached 26-year-old Robert Brown on the same block Spriggs' was killed on when he ran from officers. An altercation followed, and Brown took out a weapon. At that point, a 12-year veteran from the D.C. Police Department shot him and he was pronounced dead Tuesday.

Monday, police said they had two individuals in custody and a third was on the lam. Police have not confirmed whether Brown or the other suspects were connected to Spriggs' death. Authorities also have not said whether Young was the suspect that was at-large.
