Arrest Made in Death of Man Shot in Maryland Apartment Building

Police say the man arrested was an acquaintance of the man killed

A suspect has been arrested in the death of a man who was shot in a Maryland apartment building Wednesday.

Divonta Gatling, 23, was an acquaintance of the man who was killed, Prince George's County Police said. He confronted the victim shortly before the shooting.

Officers found Desean Chapman, 28, at about 6:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound in his upper body in an apartment building on Walters Lane in District Heights, near the Penn Mar Shopping Center, police said.

Chapman died at the scene, police said.

Gatling lives on Minnesota Avenue, across the street from Fort Circle Park. He has been charged with second degree murder and assault, and he is being held without bond, police said.
