Arrest Made in Aspiring Medic's Shooting Death

Police have arrested a man they say killed an aspiring medic and father of four last year.

DeVar Battle, 34, completed his emergency medical training course in August 2013, and was gunned down in the 3000 block of 30th Street SE about a month later.

Thursday, D.C. police arrested 33-year-old Christopher Fields of no fixed address and charged him with murder in Battle's death.

Some who live in the neighborhood told News4 last year there had been so many shootings there, they call it, 'The Graveyard Street.'

Battle’s mother told News4 her son lived in the neighborhood when he was younger but moved away when it got too dangerous, but he would return to visit friends.

Battle had four sons, ages 13, 8, 7 and 5.
