Arlington Woman Steals Car After Alleged Drunken Trip to District Taco: Police

Woman arrested, charged with grand theft auto

An apparent drunken trip to District Taco ended with the theft of a running car Saturday, Arlington County Police said.

A 22-year-old woman took an Uber to District Taco in Rosslyn and left the restaurant about 9:45 p.m., police said. She then walked a couple blocks to the Hyatt Hotel.

According to police, the woman entered the lobby, exited and and drove away in a running 2012 Chevy Malibu that was to be parked by a valet.

She woke up in the back seat of the Malibu about 1 a.m., saw the keys in the ignition and drove back to her home in Arlington, police said.

About 9 a.m. Sunday, she called Arlington County Police to report that she had the vehicle and did not know why it was with her, police said.

According to police, she said she drank a bottle of wine prior to going to District Taco.

She was arrested and charged with grand theft auto. She was held on a $2,000 unsecured bond.

Jeff Overand, an attorney for the woman, says his client may have been "involuntarily intoxicated" the night of the incident. He says the police department is also investigating the possibility his client was the victim of a sexual assault.

Arlington County Police spokeswoman Ashley Savage confirmed that after the woman was released from jail, officers were called to a local hospital for a report of a possible sexual assault related to the case.
