Anti-Semitic Flyers Circulated in Maryland City

Someone is distributing anti-Semitic flyers to residents of a Maryland city.

“On July 2, we started getting calls around 8 a.m. for anti-Semitic materials that were found, residents were reporting it found in their yards and things,” said Laura Guenin of the Laurel Police Department.

Donald Dephonse said he found one outside his home.

“It talks about how you should not be associating with them within 200 yards,” he said. “It goes on and on.”

He was among the many Laurel residents who got the offensive flyer.

“When you start reading it, it's absurd and it’s vile and it's hateful, but it's also stupid,” he said.

Dephonse said he used to teach religion.

“I taught Hebrew scriptures for 40 years, so it really upset me,” he said.

Police are investigating the distribution of the flyers as a hate crime.

“It's not representative of Laurel, and we are definitely investigating this to find out what's going on and get to the bottom of it,” Guenin said.
