Flyers were found on the campus of American University, containing anti-immigration messages, and police have released video showing two people who they said put up those messages.

The university said they do not believe they were targeted and were likely a reaction to the DACA and women’s marches held in Washington, D.C., this weekend. The flyers, eight of them, were found between the School of International Service building and Roper Hall, and outside of Kerwin Hall.

The AU Student Government organization expressed outrage that the flyers appeared on campus.

“The racist and misogynist messages these posters contained are inconsistent with values we hold as a university. We are a globally-minded university which attracts some of the best minds from across the United States and from around the world,” according to a statement from the AUSG.

“We have faced incidents like this before, and because of our resiliency and our renewed commitments to diversity and inclusion, we remain a target. What will continue to change and improve is how we deal with this reality as a community.”

The flyers contained a website to an American neo-Nazi and white supremacist group.

University police released a description of the people suspected of attaching the posters on campus.

The first person has a small build, wearing a plaid, flannel-style coat or shirt, jeans, and a dark-colored cap. The person covered their face with a dark-colored cloth.

The second person has a large build and was wearing a green or tan coat, jeans, and a dark-colored cap.

Police also released surveillance video from campus cameras that shows the pair. Bystanders in the video were blurred. They ask anyone to call 202-885-3636 if they were in the area and spotted the two.

Flyers showing a Confederate flag and stalks of cotton were found in several locations at American University in September 2017. Racist messages were seen on campus in May 2017.
