Another Asian Woman Targeted in Street Robbery

Similar Montgomery County robberies date to Sept. 1

SILVER SPRING, Md. -- Two men stole an Asian woman's purse Thursday afternoon in a street robbery believed to be linked to a series of robberies dating to Sept. 1, according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

The 66-year-old victim was carrying her groceries home after 3:30 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind by two men in the 13400 block of Rippling Brook Road in Silver Spring, police said. One of the men the woman to the ground, and she screamed. The men grabbed her purse and ran toward Regina Drive.

The culprits were described as black men standing between 5 foot 10 and 6 foot 1 and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. One wore a dark-blue hooded sweatshirt, beige pants and a knitted black hat. The other wore a long-sleeve, dark blue shirt and dark blue sweatpants.

Investigators believe the robbery is linked to four similar incidents on Sept. 1 in Bethesda, Sept. 19 in Wheaton, Sept. 21 in Kensington and Oct. 8 in Colesville, police said. The culprits' descriptions are similar in each case, and in each each case an Asian victim was returning home from an Asian business.
