You may want to think twice before pumping the gas pedal in the District.
The Metropolitan Police Department announced Tuesday it’s deploying new automated speed-enforcement cameras.
The Photo Enforcement Units will be located in areas with the highest number of crashes and injuries, as well as those spots with high speed volume.
Drivers caught speeding will receive warning citations this month as part of a 30-day educational phase.
The warning phase will end at the start of next month. MPD will start handing out live moving citations to violators on Oct. 1.
The new photo enforcement locations are as follows:
1. 1900 block of Independence Avenue SE east bound – speed limit 25 mph
2. Military Road .2 miles west of the 16th Street ramp NW southwest bound –
speed limit 35 mph
3. Military Road .1 miles prior to 17th Street NW northeast bound – speed limit
35 mph
