American University Students Hand Out Hand-Warmers to Homeless People in Cold

"It's very windy, very cold and I can't imagine being out here for long periods of time with nothing to keep you warm"

As bitterly cold weather descended on the D.C. area, Carly Holencik and Kendall Malinchock, two students at American University, jumped into action Wednesday afternoon.

They recognized that cold weather conditions affect everyone - including homeless people on the street.

Bundled up, the two hit the streets of northwest Washington to hand out hand-warmers to people who needed them, including to a man at the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue NW and River Road NW in Tenleytown.

"We know how cold we are out here and I can't imagine staying out here for a very long time," Holencik said.
