Allen, Kaine Endorse Airports Board Reform

Virginia's two U.S. Senate candidates have endorsed a proposal that Virginia take over the board that oversees the Washington area's two airports.

According to The Washington Examiner, Republican George Allen and Democrat Tim Kaine said Tuesday that they support legislation offered by Rep. Frank Wolf, R-Va., that would shrink the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and give Virginia control of the regional board.

The board is overseeing construction of the $8 billion Metrorail extension to Washington Dulles International Airport. A recent audit found questionable spending and contracting procedures by the board.

Allen said Tuesday that Kaine's appointees "have caused a lack of trust in the board." But a Kaine spokesman says the Republican is playing politics by blaming Kaine for the board's problems.
