Alaska Troopers Shoot Falls Church Man

Alaska State Troopers have released the names of two Fairbanks-based troopers who fatally shot a Virginia man suspected of wounding a man at a cabin along the Parks Highway last week.

The troopers are Sgt. Chad Goeden and trooper Lucas Altepeter.

Troopers said the 34-year-old suspect, Atom Ziniewicz of Falls Church, Va., was killed as troopers tried to arrest him Friday.

According to troopers, 21-year-old Brenton Green of Anchorage and 21-year-old Kimberly Scharber of Wasilla were at the cabin near Mile 270 of the highway when they were confronted by a man with a gun. Troopers say Ziniewicz shot Green twice.

Green and Scharber fled and reported the shooting.

Troopers say results of an ongoing investigation of the shooting will be turned over to the state Department of Law.
