Airbnb Projects DC-Area Hosts Will Earn $3.5M Inauguration Weekend

Airbnb is projecting that hosts in the D.C. metro area will earn over $3.5 million in income from inauguration weekend reservations.

The online booking site believes more than 10,000 guests will stay with Airbnb hosts during the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump. That's seven times the number of guests who stayed at an Airbnb location in 2013. Airbnb was founded in 2008.

Reservations increased by 80 percent in the week following Election Day, according to a report released by Airbnb late last month.

Airbnb says there are more than 6,100 different listings in D.C., Maryland and Virginia for inauguration weekend, but many customers are booking accommodations in Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Shaw and the H Street Corridor in D.C.
