Adam Gonzalez was arrested in connection with a Mechanicsville convenience store robbery.

Adam J. Gonzalez, 27, has been arrested for the armed robbery of a Mechanicsville convenience store.

Sunday morning just after 11 a.m., police say a thief entered the Race-N-Inn store and brandished a handgun, demanding money from the cashier. The store employee complied and the thief fled through the back door and into a white Chevrolet.

Police were alerted to be on the lookout for the vehicle, and eventually spotted the suspect speeding down Crain Highway, in what police believe to be the getaway car.

Upon search of the vehicle, a handgun was recovered and Gonzalez was identified as an active duty military person, currently stationed at Joint Base Andrews.

Gonzalez is being held at St. Mary's County Detention Center on $100,000 bond.
