The first black woman to serve as American University's student government president won her lawsuit against a neo-Nazi website operator on Friday.
Taylor Dumpson, who served as the university's student body president in 2017, was awarded $725,000 in the case, court documents show.
The founder of the Daily Stormer, Andrew Anglin and follower Brian Ade are accused of targeting Dumpson in an internet harassment campaign.
Several bananas with racist messages were found hanging from nooses the day Dumpson took office. Authorities investigated the incident but didn't identify any suspects.
Anglin posted an article about the incident, linking to Dumpson's Facebook page and the American University Student Government's Twitter page with offensive tweets directed at Dumpson.
Earlier this year, Dumpson's attorneys asked a federal judge in Washington for a default judgment against Anglin and a follower accused of racially harassing Dumpson on Twitter. Dumpson sued Anglin and the internet troll in April 2018, but did not receive a response.
Dumpson originally sought a total of more than $1.8 million in damages, fees and costs in the case against Anglin and his company, Moonbase Holdings LLC.

Dumpson said she has been diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder and felt unsafe at AU because of the harassment.
