911 Call: Mom Says Son Having PCP Overdose

Man Dies On Way to Hospital

A man died on his way to the hospital after his family called authorities, believing the man was suffering from a PCP overdose.

Prince George’s County police said they received two 911 calls from a home in the 10000 block of Westwood Drive, in Cheltenham, Maryland. A woman and a man, calling separately, said a relative was possibly suffering from a PCP overdose.

In the 911 call, a man can be heard in the background, screaming and pounding on walls in another room.

The 911 operator told the woman, who was the man’s mother, to stay away from her son for her own safety. The man’s uncle called 911 from outside the home.

When officers arrived at the home, they found the man, who weighed nearly 500 pounds, naked and incoherent. They restrained him with two sets of handcuffs, and six officers placed him on a comforter and carried him downstairs to waiting emergency medical personnel.

Once outside, officers removed the handcuffs, and the man was placed on a stretcher and loaded into an ambulance. Several minutes after getting into the ambulance, paramedics could not find a pulse, and they tried to revive the man.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An autopsy revealed no signs of any injuries to the man's body, and the family told investigators they saw no use of force by the officers. The toxicology test results could take several weeks.
