A 91-year-old man is suffering from third-degree burns following a kitchen fire that occurred just before 10 p.m. on Thursday night in Fairfax County, police say.
Firefighters responded to a call on the 1800 block of Old Meadow Road in McLean, Va. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the elderly man suffering from burns to more than 40-50% of his body, according to officials.
Authorities say the man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, and that there has not been a fire fatality in Fairfax County in more than a year.
