90+ DC Police Officers Arrested in 3 Years: Washington Examiner

19 officers arrested in 2011, the Examiner says

More than 90 Metropolitan Police officers have been arrested during the past three and a half years, the Washington Examiner reports.

"Metropolitan Police Department officers have been nabbed within the District and as far away as Florida. They've been arrested on charges ranging from to child pornography to murder," the Examiner says.

The most recent incident happened Sept. 3, when Capt. Lamar West was for allegedly choking his wife in the backseat of a moving car in Upper Marlboro, Md. The driver stopped, and another passenger pulled West out of the back seat and held him down until police arrived.

Nineteen D.C. officers have been arrested this year. "By contrast, Philadelphia -- a city whose police force dwarfs Washington's, with 6,600 sworn officers to D.C.'s 3,800 -- saw just six officers arrested this year as of July, according to statistics from the Philadelphia Police Department," the Examiner reports.

The majority of arrests occur while the officers are off-duty, police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump told the Examiner. See the full story here.
