87-Year-Old Woman Dies After Crash With Wanted Man During Police Chase

An 87-year-old Maryland woman has died of her injuries after a man crashed into her car during a police chase, authorities said.

Carol Jean Anderson, of Leonardtown, died Saturday, six days after the March 3 crash. The crash occurred as 20-year-old Machiavelli Tyzhae Savoy was being chased by authorities, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff's Office said. Savoy lost control on a curve on Pegg Road and crossed the center line, where Anderson was driving, the office said.

The two received "incapacitating" injuries and were transported to a hospital.

Savoy was in the hospital in critical condition the day after the crash; his current condition is unknown.

He was wanted on numerous outstanding warrants, including multiple handgun warrants. The chase started after officers found him in Lexington Park and tried to take him into custody. He refused and then led authorities on the car chase.

Authorities said that after the crash, they found a loaded gun on Savoy and recovered more evidence from his vehicle.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office said it's working with the Office of the State's Attorney regarding additional criminal charges against Savoy.
