81-Year-Old Springfield Man Killed in I-395 Crash

Nevada man charged with reckless driving

A Nevada man was charged with reckless driving after a fatal early-morning crash on I-395 Wednesday.

Ernest Campbell, 81, of Springfield, Va., died after his pickup truck was struck just south of Exit 3 around 4:50 a.m. Wednesday.

According to authorities, the Nevada man -- Edward Flores-Curiel, 22 -- was driving a Subaru Legacy in the northbound lanes when his car ran off the left side of the highway, struck the guardrail and then rebounded into the travel lanes.

The Subaru then hit Campbell's truck, causing it to run off the side of the highway. It hit a guardrail and overturned.

Campbell was transported to Alexandria Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Flores-Curiel and his passenger were not injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time, but alcohol was not a factor, authorities said.
