A 74-year-old man struck by a driver who investigators say intentionally rammed his SUV into the Silver Diner restaurant in Tysons Corner Center has died.

Andrew Sheren of McLean died Tuesday due to the injuries he suffered May 4, according to Fairfax County Police.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for 59-year-old Samuel Ovie Abutoh of Springfield on charges of malicious wounding and destruction of property, police said. He will be served upon his release from a hospital. Additional charges are pending.

Abutoh intentionally drove into the Fletcher Street restaurant multiple times, striking Sheren, who was trying to enter the diner, police said.

Abutoh then poured liquid on his body and lit himself on fire, police said. He then rammed the restaurant again, pinning two other people against the building. The Hummer burst into flames and created a pillar of smoke that was visible through much of Tysons Corner, raw video obtained by NBC Washington shows.

According to search warrants, police seized plastic bottles, liquid samples, burned debris and floor mats from the Hummer.

A restaurant spokeswoman said Abutoh had been a cook there but was on bereavement leave.
