7 Shot at Birthday Party for 2-Year-Old Child in Prince George's County: Police

Seven people were shot at a birthday party for a 2-year-old child Saturday night in Prince George's County, Maryland, police say.

The shooting happened at an apartment complex in the 6200 block of Maxwell Drive in Camp Springs, police said.

Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski said the shooting victims ranged in age from 18 to 20 years old. Three of them had serious injuries and four of the victims had less serious injuries, Stawinski said. They are all expected to survive, he said.

Stawinksi said about a dozen people were gathered for the party when one person came up and a fight broke out before the shooting.

Police are searching for a suspect.

"You get caught with an illegal gun in Prince George's County, you've got to go to jail. Alright, this has got to end. You got a 2-year-old's birthday party and you have shots ring out," Stawinski said.

On Sunday, News4 counted at least 10 bullet holes at the apartment complex.

"Innocent people could have died last night all for somebody's stupidity. So, I think it's just ridiculous," neighbor Lola Morrison said.
