600 Marijuana Plants Seized in Ellicott City Home

Howard County police say officers have seized more than 600 marijuana plants from an Ellicott City home in what they say is the largest indoor marijuana growing operation discovered in the county.

The department said in a news release Friday that the home had been sold at auction and when the new owner went to the house last week, he saw a van in the driveway.

The owner called police, and officers detected an odor of marijuana. Investigators say a search warrant was obtained.

Authorities say 600 marijuana plants were found in the basement with ventilation, lighting and watering systems. Police said officers also found a shotgun, prescription pills, and suspected crack cocaine and heroin.

The residents, Casey Fowler and Daniel Sims, both 48, were charged with multiple drug offenses.
