50 Mail Collection Boxes to Be Removed Ahead of Papal Visit

The U.S. Postal Service says it will remove 50 blue collection boxes from the several areas in Washington, D.C., ahead of Pope Francis' visit.

Several neighborhoods will be cordon off when the Pope is in Washington. The postal service says the closures will prevent postal employees from collecting and delivering mail in some areas.

The collection boxes will be removed on Sept. 22, the same day the Pope is scheduled to arrive in the D.C. area. Mail service will continue in other areas of the District.

The collection boxes will be replaced by Sept. 25.

The postal service says customers have been notified of the changes individually.
