6 Awesome Holiday Markets in the DMV

Finding the perfect gifts for the holidays doesn't have to mean long lines, crowded shops and impossible parking lots. There are countless craft festivals in the D.C. area where you can find handcrafted and local gifts and also enjoy music, refreshments and other events as you shop.

Here are six to check out this holiday season:

Downtown Holiday Market
F Street NW between 7th & 9th streets
Now through Dec. 23

The 13th Annual Downtown Holiday Market this year will include more than 150 local artisans and boutique businesses. Browse through gift items including jewelry, pottery, paintings and textiles. Some vendors and goods rotate daily, and you'll also find festive treats such as hot donuts and cider, plus live seasonal music.

Alexandria Holiday Market

300 John Carlyle Street, Alexandria
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Dec. 1 to Dec. 23

This annual festival offers unique art and craft items, live entertainment, and winter treats including hot cocoa -- oh, and hot wine. Kids can paint their own Christmas ornaments at the market's Children's Corner. The festival also participates in a toy drive program to help Alexandria families in need celebrate the holidays.

Made in DC Pop-Up Market

4340 Connecticut Ave. NW
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from Dec. 1 to Dec. 17

More than a dozen local vendors will participate in this festive indoor marketplace. Whether you're looking for art, jewelry, decor or homemade snacks, the Made in DC Pop-Up Market offers something for you. Organizers hope to bring Santa back for pictures with your furry friend. Last year, pet photo proceeds benefited City Dogs Rescue and City Kittens.

Winterfest at Wunder Garten

1101 First Street NE
Thursday through Sunday, Dec. 1 to Dec. 17

Shop local goods including Chups, Potomac Candle, The Fancy Schmancy Co. while sipping hot toddies or hot chocolate. Alongside the market, you'll find a beer garden, a tree lot and a number of holiday-themed activities. Organizers promise pop-up cafes, s'mores and a fire pit surrounded by cozy blankets.

Christkindlmarkt at the Heurich House Museum

1307 New Hampshire Ave. NW
Dec. 1-3

Bundle up to peruse handcrafted gifts including jewlery, pottery, stationary, food products and more at this outdoor, German-style market. Adults will need a $10 ticket to enter the market, which you'll find in the gardens outside the Huerich House Museum in Dupont Circle. On Friday, all the goodies are made in D.C.

GRUMP

1750 Crystal Drive, Arlington
Dec. 9

Smithsonian National Zoo
Dec. 15-17

Known as an "alternative arts and crafts show," GRUMP has expanded to the National Zoo for 2017. Not only can you shop for handmade crafts, but you can also take photos with the GRUMPY yeti herself.
