5-Year-Old Child Injured in Hit and Run

Driver in white, commercial-style van fled the scene.

Police are on the lookout for the driver of a van who struck a 5-year-old boy in Northern Virginia Tuesday, then fled the scene.

According to a news release, the boy's mother had parked in the 8200 block of Rainwater Circle in Manassas, Va. just before 7 p.m. When she took the boy out of the car, he noticed a relative accross the street and ran toward them.

Police say the boy was then struck by a white Ford E350 series commercial-style van with a sliding door on the passenger side, a dent on the front left bumper and a ladder rack on top.

A witness to the crash told News4 another car narrowly missed hitting the boy, but said the van looked as though it couldn't stop.

"[The driver left] immediately," the witness asid.

The boy was flown to an area hospital and is expected to be OK. News4's Erika Gonzalez spoke with the boy's father, who said his son is back at home.

If you have any information on the van, contact Prince William County Police at 1-866-411-TIPS.
