40 Displaced After Howard Co. Fire

Part of apartment building collapses

Officials in Howard County are investigating a fire that displaced 40 residents of an apartment building early Sunday morning.

Authorities say the three-alarm blaze broke out at around 6:45 a.m. in the 9700 block of Tiger Lilly Path in Laurel. Crews were battling the fire on the third floor of the building when investigators say that part of the rear of the building collapsed.

Firefighters from Prince George's Anne Arundel, and Montgomery counties were called in to assist Howard County crews.

No injuries to the building's residents were reported. Two firefighters were hospitalized, one for an ankle injury and the other for heat exhaustion.
