Four Things You Can Rent, Not Buy

There are some things in life you can get away with renting, and no one will be the wiser.

News4's Consumer Reporter Erika Gonzalez shares four items you can rent that can help you save your hard-earned cash.

1.) Your Wedding Dress
Kiplinger Personal Finance found brides spent an average of $1,300 on their bridal gown in 2014. Sites like Rent the Runway and Borrowing Magnolia have dresses available for between $30 and $450.

Shh! No one has to know.

2.) Power Tools
A number of the big hardware chains rent big-ticket items and smaller tools you may not use year-round. Kiplinger says Home Depot, Ace and True Value in the D.C. area rent tools from about $25 to $65.

3.) Space in a Garden
Got a green thumb, but no place to plant? Kiplinger suggests renting space in a community garden

. Do a search online for gardens near you and availability this spring.

4.) Caskets
We know what you're thinking, but hear us out. Caskets cost an average of $5,000, according to Kiplinger. But many funeral homes will let you rent one for a viewing for under $1,000.

You can then buy a simple wooden box insert that can be used for cremation.
