Four Teen Boys Charged With Setting Fire at Elementary School in Laurel

Four teenage boys have been charged with setting fire to a classroom trailer at an elementary school in Laurel, said Prince George's County fire officials.

Three of the suspects are 13 years old; the other is 15.

The fire happened back on June 30. Firefighters were dispatched to Deerfield Run Elementary School in the 13000 block of Laurel Bowie Road, and arrived around 6:10 p.m. to find a fire in a temporary classroom. They extinguished it quickly.

Investigators determined that the blaze had been purposely set.

The four teenage suspects were arrested last week, fire officials announced Wednesday.

The teens have been charged with first- and second-degree arson and first- and second-degree malicious burning, among other charges.

No one was injured in the fire.

If the suspects are convicted, the maximum penalties associated with the charges could mean they will be held in juvenile detention facilities until they are 21 years old.
