D.C. police said they have released four people who were detained at the same time that the suspect in the slayings of a wealthy family was taken into custody.
Police did not identify the four people or say how long they were detained. Thirty-four-year-old Darron Wint is the only person who's been charged in the slayings of 46-year-old Savvas Savopoulos; his wife, 47-year-old Amy Savopoulos; their 10-year-old son, Philip Savopoulos; and a housekeeper, Veralicia Figueroa.
Police say blunt force and sharp force trauma killed the three adults, according to court documents. The boy died of thermal and sharp force injuries.
Police have said in charging documents they believe Wint had help from others holding the Savopouloses captive inside their northwest Washington mansion for at least 18 hours. But no other suspects have been identified.
The affidavit also says police interviewed Savvas Savopoulos' assistant, who was told to take $40,000 to the house the day the bodies were found. The assistant lied about when and how the ransom money was delivered.
Sources close to the Savopoulos family say neither friends nor family close to the tragedy have seen that assistant since the day before the house was set on fire.
Wint was arrested Thursday night in Washington, a week after the slayings. He had previously worked for Savvas Savopoulos' company.
