PHOTOS: 30 Acres of Sunflowers On Display Now in Maryland

The sunflowers are the handywork of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, who plant 30-acres of the tall golden flowers each year in the field off River Road.

Cherry blossoms bloomed in March, but there’s another peak bloom happening now not too far from D.C. The sunflowers at McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area, an hour drive outside of D.C. near Poolesville, Maryland, are approaching full bloom this week.

There are nine different fields to get lost in, but picking the flowers isn’t allowed. Don’t forget your bug spray. Bees and butterflies are attracted to these fields of yellow.

Hunting is permitted, so long as you follow statewide open season dates, bag limits and shooting hours. There are no water fountains or bathrooms there, so plan accordingly. Go here for more information.
