WASHINGTON -- Krestan Bernard Leonard is charged with second-degree murder while armed in the shooting death of Melody B. Williams.
The 41-year-old Williams was waiting with two female relatives for a ride to work after 11 p.m. Friday night when she and her relatives were shot in the 3000 block of Stanton Road in Southeast, police said. The three women were taken to an area hospital, where Williams was pronounced dead.
Investigators do not believe the women were targeted but that Leonard was looking for someone else, police said.
Leonard, 27, was arrested Sunday.

The D.C. police arrest rate in homicide cases is rising, and Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that's because police are getting more tips from residents.
"I think, across the board, people in this city are tired of the violence," Lanier said.
Williams worked the night shift as a nurse at the Carolyn Boone Lewis Health Care Center.
