3 Teens Injured in Southeast DC Shooting

A 14-year-old and two other teenagers were shot in Southeast D.C. Friday evening.

The shootings took place in the 300 block of Parkland Place SE before 6:30 p.m. Police are looking for a brown car that headed south on Waclark Place SE.

All three are expected to survive.

They were shot just feet away from the house of Makiyah Wilson’s grandmother.

“It’s hard because I’m still getting over trying to get past my grandbaby getting killed,” Pandora Wilson said.

Makiyah, 10, was shot July 16, 2018, as gang members were shooting at rivals and inadvertently killed the little girl.

“I’m a little lost for words at this moment,” her grandmother said.

Jerri Brathwaite’s 16-year-old son, Steffen, was shot and killed in Southeast just after midnight Tuesday morning.

“I’m sad,” she said. “It’s devastating. Should no parent have to deal with this.”

She said Steffen was a good student at Ballou High School.

She said he was walking home from his friend’s house in an apartment complex’s courtyard on Hartford Street SE when shots were fired.

“That neighborhood he was in, it’s a bad neighborhood,” she said. “So it could have happened to anyone.”

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the killing of Steffen Brathwaite.

Another 16-year-old, Domonique Franklin, was shot and killed in Southwest two weeks ago

Karon Brown, 11, and Maurice Scott, 15, are the youngest victims of gun violence in D.C. this year.
