Man Charged with Killing Wife, Stepchildren

Dean charged with murder

TRIANGLE, Va. -- A man shot and killed his wife and two stepchildren Thursday night after an apparent domestic dispute, according to Prince William County police.

The incident happened at about 10:45 p.m. in the 18000 block of Cedar Drive in Triangle.

Police said the suspect Carillo Dean, 44, shot and killed Elizabeth Dean, 45, and two children: 13-year-old Connor Kirk and 14-year-old Brittany Kirk. The children attended Graham Park Middle School and Forest Park High School, respectively.

Police said Elizabeth Dean and Connor Kirk died at the scene. Brittany Kirk was flown to a nearby hospital and died early Friday morning.

Police said the husband, a Prince William County park ranger, was the one who called police.

"From the very beginning, police were able to communicate with him and obtain information," said Erika Hernandez of the Prince William County Police Department.

His neighbors called him "C.D." and described him as a loving father.

"They did everything as a family," one neighbor said.  "It was nice.  They were nice people."

Carillo Dean's elderly mother was home at the time of the shooting but was not harmed.  Neighbors said he also had to help take care of his wife, who suffered from brittle bone celiac disease.

Carillo Dean is in custody and has been charged with murder.
