3 Charged in U Street Shooting

Suspects caught in traffic fleeing the scene

Police arrested three men in connection with an early morning shooting in the heart of a nightlife corridor in northwest Washington over the weekend.

Two women were shot, each in a leg, after an argument between two groups of men at 11th and U streets in northwest about 2:45 a.m. Saturday, police said.

Court documents show two police officers in the area heard the gunshots and saw three men running from the direction of the gunfire. Records show the men got into a car and tried to leave but got stuck in traffic.

Police later recovered a handgun from the scene.

Court records show 23-year-old Kyree Lathern, 22-year-old Delonte Anthony Butler and 21-year-old Malcolm Xavier Fonville were arrested and charged with carrying a firearm in a car.
