2nd Prince George's Standoff Ends Peacefully

Suicidal man surrenders to police

A man is in custody Sunday morning after a brief standoff with Prince George's County Police.

Police received a report of a suicidal man at 8110 Neville Place in Fort Washington at around 5:00 a.m. Authorities say the man eventually made his way to the 7900 block of Oxon Hill Road at the intersection of Route 210 and Kerby Road, where he remained under a tree while negotiators tried to convince the man to surrender.

Prince George's County Police eventually tweeted that the standoff had ended at 8:14 a.m., just over three hours after the initial call was made. The man, who has not been identified, reportedly surrendered peacefully and will be taken to a local hospital for mental evaluation.

This was the second standoff that Prince George's County Police had been involved in this weekend. On Saturday, a man surrendered to police in Hyattsville after barricading himself in his apartment following a hit-and-run accident.
