23 Dogs Rescued From Meat Farm Coming to D.C. Area

Twenty-three dogs rescued from a dog meat farm in South Korea are headed to the D.C. area to find homes.

Humane Society International says it worked with the farm owner in Seoul to close the farm for good. The agency removed 23 dogs, including 12 puppies, from what it says were miserable conditions.

The agency says it compensated the farm owner in exchange for signing an agreement to stop raising dogs for food, and crop-farm instead.

The rescued dogs are being brought to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and are expected to arrive Monday and Tuesday. They'll be held there for three days and then transferred to five shelters in Northern Virginia and the District.

The Humane Society says the dogs will be cared for until they find "forever homes.''
