2 Troopers Injured While Looking for Wrong-Way Driver

Two Maryland State troopers pursuing a wrong-way driver were injured after they collided into each other in Prince George's County.

Trooper Warren Thompson and Trooper Kamil Kozoil were called to the northbound lanes of Route 4 in Upper Marlboro about midnight Thursday for a report of an impaired driver traveling in the wrong direction.

Police say the troopers were following each other when Thompson ran into the back of Kozoil's patrol car. Kozoil's car then traveled across the median and down an embankment.

Thompson was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center while Kozoil was taken to Prince George's Hospital in an ambulance. Both troopers are expected to survive.

The driver the troopers were looking for was eventually stopped by a Maryland Natural Resources police officer. Police say the driver has been charged with driving while under the influence.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
