Man Killed, Another Critically Hurt After Crash on Indian Head Highway

One man has died and another is in critical condition after a vehicle struck them on one of the deadliest roads in the D.C. region Saturday in Oxon Hill, Maryland, police say.

The two were outside at the end of the I-295 southbound exit ramp on southbound Indian Head Highway trying to fix their broken down truck on the shoulder about 8:30 a.m., Prince George's County police said.

As two cars approached the end of the exit ramp, the first one swerved to avoid hitting the men, but the second car was unable to avoid them and crashed into both men and the truck, police said.

Both men were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

Jose Miguel, 34, died later at the hospital, police said. Miguel was from Rockville.

The other man is still being treated for critical injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene of the crash and had minor injuries, police said..

Roving speed cameras were introduced in spring, and WTOP reports they have issued more than 3,000 violations. More than 21,000 violations have been issued on the road this year, the report says.
