2 Men Arrested for Assaulting, Robbing Man Wearing MAGA Hat in Maryland: Police

Two men harassed, beat and robbed a man who was wearing a Make America Great Again hat in Germantown, Maryland, over the weekend, police say.

Montgomery County police said 27-year-old Jovan Crawford and 25-year-old Scott Duncan Roberson went up to the victim in the area of Cottage Garden Drive on Saturday and started harassing him.

When they asked him why he was wearing the MAGA hat, the victim told the suspects he was entitled to his own views and kept walking away from them, according to police.

Crawford and Roberson then started striking the victim and telling him to take the hat off, police said. They continued to hit the victim until he fell to the ground, police said.

Police say the suspects then took the victim's belongings and destroyed some of them before running off.

When officers responded to the scene, they started searching for the suspects and found them trying to hide among a group of children playing basketball, police said.

Crawford and Roberson were each charged with second-degree assault, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted theft. Crawford also faces a charge for malicious destruction of property.
