A Severna Park woman and her 11-year-old son are dead after a fire at their home, authorities say.
The fire broke out around 1:45 a.m. Monday at a home in the 100 block of Benfield Road, said Anne Arundel County fire department spokesman Capt. Russ Davies.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire in the rear of the ranch-style home. When they searched the home, firefighters found two people in a front bedroom. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
The victims were identified as 44-year-old Pauline Naylor and her son, 11-year-old William Burnapp III.
It took about 40 firefighters half an hour to control the blaze. Davies says damage is estimated at $250,000. The cause is under investigation.
