2 Couples Involved in Rare Kidney Exchange

WASHINGTON -- Two couples from the D.C. area met for the first time Friday, three days after their rare kidney exchange saved two lives.
Yasan Wilson, of Reston, Va., wanted to donate a kidney to her husband, David, but she was not a match. Nor could D.C.'s Darren Curtis donate a kidney to Tanita Simmons. So doctors at Georgetown University Hospital asked each couple to swap with strangers.
The men exchanged one kidney Tuesday, and the women exchanged another. Such a swap has only happened 200 times in the history of transplant surgery.
The couples shed tears of joy when they met each other Friday.
