2 Women Raped, Robbed in Mount Pleasant; Police Search for Suspect

Two women were raped and robbed in D.C.'s Mount Pleasant neighborhood, and police believe one man is responsible.

One woman was assaulted about 1 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the suspect came in after removing an air conditioner from a back window. Early Thursday morning, the suspect broke into another woman's home through a back bedroom window. The victims live just two doors apart from each other in the 1600 block of Irving Street NW.

Police Chief Peter Newsham said in both cases the attacker told the victims he he had a weapon and demanded money.

A neighbor said the victim of the first attack knocked on his door after the assault with the suspect beside her.

"She said a man had broken in and he was here now and then he stepped where I could see him and he said, 'Don't make any noise. I've got a gun. I'll kill her,'" the neighbor said. He did not want to be identified.

He said the attacker stole the victim's bicycle.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood Thursday and passed out flyers with photos of the suspect.

Police later released these videos of the suspect:
