2 Suspects in Custody, 1 Dead After Foiled Armored Car Robbery

Police arrested two suspects in Wednesday’s attempted armored car robbery in northwest Washington. A third suspect died from injuries suffered in an exchange of gunfire with an armored car guard.

At least one armed man approached the guard exiting the CVS in the 6500 block of Georgia Avenue NW before 11 a.m. and demanded the money. The guard exchanged gunfire with at least one man, who fled the scene with at least three others.

One of the men, 27-year-old Kirk Anthony Dean, was dropped off at the Washington Hospital Center, where the getaway car was ditched after being wiped down for fingerprints. Dean later died.

Police picked up two suspects in the area of the crime – 26-year-old Darnell Crews and 21-year-old Anthony James. They are charged with attempted armored car robbery.
