School Bus Hits Car in Md., 16 Students Taken to Hospital

A school bus rear-ended a car in Charles County, sending 16 students to the hospital as a precaution.

Charles County sheriff's spokeswoman Diane Richardson says the bus was headed to Henry E. Lackey High School in Indian Head around 7 a.m. Monday when a car ahead stopped to make a left-hand turn. The bus failed to stop, rear-ending the car. That car then hit another car in the oncoming lane of traffic, and a third car hit that vehicle from behind.

She says all 16 students on the bus and the bus driver were taken to the hospital as a precaution. A Charles County schools spokeswoman says two students had minor injuries _ a broken nose and back pain.

Richardson says the driver of the rear-ended car had minor injuries.
